Editorial policy
The rules we follow so you can trust what the registry says and what it does not say.
Where the information comes from
- Licence facts come from the websites of the National Gambling Board and the provincial gambling boards. Every entry links to the page we read.
- Help and safer-gambling facts come from the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation and the NGB.
- We do not use leaks, tips, press releases or anything a bookmaker sends us as a source for a licence.
How we read the lists
We open each page with an ordinary web request and keep the parsed rows, the time we fetched the page and a fingerprint of the page. If a board's site asks us to complete a bot check, needs a login, or is down, we record it as not read and do not try to get round it. This is why 6 of the 9 provinces rely on the national list.
The lists were last read on 3 Oct 2026.
What an entry means
An entry is one licensee as an official list names it, in one province. It shows the brands, company, province and licence number the list gives, and which list named it. We do not add trading names from anywhere else, and we do not change a company's name. Where a list does not say, we say it does not say.
What we leave out
- Anything other than sports betting.
- Operators with no South African licence, whatever they claim.
- Ratings, rankings and promotions.
- Names of private individuals who hold a licence in their own name.
Independence
No bookmaker pays us, supplies us with copy or sees a page before it is published. There are no affiliate links and no advertising.
Corrections
When we find a mistake we fix the registry, change the date it was read, and say what changed. Because every entry points to its source, a wrong entry is traced to either our reading or the board's page, and we fix the part that is ours.
