Draw no bet: what it means and how it settles

Draw no bet backs one team to win, and a draw returns the stake as the bookmaker's own rule words it. This guide explains how it settles, how it differs from double chance, what counts after regular play, and what three bookmakers say about abandoned and postponed matches and about multis. The prices are invented.

What is draw no bet?

Draw no bet is a football market on which team wins the match, with the draw taken out as a refund. Sportingbet's football rules give it as "Which team will win the match? If the game finishes in a draw then stakes will be refunded, e.g. draw no bet, Home no bet and Away no bet." [1]

SportyBet words it as a voided selection rather than a refund: "Predict the winner of the match. If the teams draw, the selection will be voided." [2] It lists Home No Bet and Away No Bet beside it, where the voided result is a home win or an away win instead. Home No Bet reads "Predict the result at regular time. If Home team wins, the selection will be voided." [2]

Sportingbet's general rules treat a void bet as won at odds of 1.00 and add: "For individual (single) bets, this means that the user will get the amount equal to his stake back." [3] SportyBet's help page says a void match counts as "an odd of 1.00" [4]. It does not say what a voided draw no bet selection returns. Our reading: if SportyBet settles it at odds of 1.00 too, a single gets the stake back.

Supabets' betting terms have one line on the subject, in a list headed "Betting T&C's": "All games will be Draw No Bet. All bets will be refunded if the match ends in a draw." [5] The line does not say which games it covers, and the second item in the same list is about the Supa Futsal League. Our reading: we cannot tell that it applies to football, so this guide does not rely on it.

How does a draw no bet bet settle?

Take an invented bet of R100 on one side to win, at decimal odds of 1.85. The return on a winning bet is the stake multiplied by the odds, as the decimal odds guide explains. There are three results at the end of regular play, and the table shows each one.

R100 on one side in a draw no bet at invented odds of 1.85, settled three ways
Result at the end of regular playSettled asReturnedGain or loss on R100
Your side winsWon at 1.85R185.00Gain of R85.00
The match is drawnStake refundedR100.00No gain, no loss
Your side losesLostR0.00Loss of R100.00

Illustrative only. The odds and the stake are invented, and the sums are calculated for this guide. No bookmaker or match is real. The draw row follows Sportingbet's refund wording; SportyBet says the selection is voided.

Only a win leaves you with more than you staked, and a loss costs the whole stake. A draw returns the stake and nothing more. No bet is certain, and nothing here suggests a side is likely to win.

How is draw no bet different from double chance?

Double chance covers two of the three results in one bet, so a draw can be a win. Draw no bet backs one side and returns the stake on a draw. The double chance guide puts the two side by side at invented prices.

Does extra time or a penalty shoot-out count?

On Sportingbet's football rules, no. They say: "Unless displayed otherwise (e.g. Match is 80 mins play, extra time, penalty shoot-out etc), all markets will be settled on regular play. This includes any added injury or stoppage time but does not include scheduled extra time or penalty shoot-outs, if played." [1]

Its general rules say "Any extra time or penalty shoot-outs etc. will have no influence on the settlement of any bets." They add: "Any exceptions will either be announced as they occur or are part of the special rules of the specific sport." [3]

SportyBet's soccer rules say: "All markets (except halftime, first-half markets, overtime and penalty shootout) are considered for regular time plus injury time. Unless otherwise stated for specific bet typologies overtimes and penalty shootouts will not affect the outcome of the bet." [2]

The Supabets terms we read have no extra-time rule for draw no bet. Their extra-time wording covers bets "made straight out at the line or start", which "are not subject to extra time except where otherwise specified" [5], and products such as its Soccer 6 and Soccer 4 pool bets and its electronic leagues.

Our reading, with an invented cup tie: it is level at 1-1 after 90 minutes plus stoppage time, and one side wins in extra time. On the Sportingbet and SportyBet wording the match counts as drawn, so a draw no bet on either side is refunded or voided. A market on who goes through is a different question, covered in the soccer betting markets guide.

What happens if the match is abandoned or postponed?

For an abandoned match, Sportingbet's football rules say: "Any scheduled match abandoned before the completion of regular play will be made void, with the exception of all bets the outcome of which has already been determined at the time of abandonment." [1] Its help page adds for a single bet: "the wagered amount is refunded to your account balance." [6] The rules give no worked example of how a draw no bet settles after an abandonment.

For a postponed match, Sportingbet has two windows. Its general rules count a postponed event that restarts "not later than 72 hours from the displayed start date", and void the bets if it restarts later [3]. Its football rules say they "will take precedence over the Sports betting general rules" [1].

The football rule is shorter: "For any cancelled or postponed match, any bets struck prior to the scheduled kick-off will be deemed void unless the match is delayed prior to the scheduled kick-off time and takes place on the same day (local time at venue)." [1]

A suspended match is void "if the match is not restarted on the same day (local time) and played to completion", but "Bets the outcome of which has already been determined at the time of suspension will stand." [1] Matches on a fixed date in tournament finals, but not their qualifiers, are an exception to both rules: they "will not be void if suspended", and "will not be void if postponed and will stand for the new date they are played" [1].

Supabets says: "For all sports unless clearly stated, events whose start time is postponed and then rescheduled to a time more than 24 hours after the original start time will automatically be deemed void for settling purposes, and all money will be credited accordingly." [5]

SportyBet's soccer rules say: "If a match is interrupted and continued within 48h after initial kickoff, all open bets will be settled with the final result. Otherwise all undecided bets are considered void." They add: "If a match is interrupted or postponed and is not continued within 48h after initial kick-off date betting will be void." [2]

The postponement windows each bookmaker states, in its own terms
RuleWindowWhat happens past it
Sportingbet, general rulesRestarted not later than 72 hours from the displayed start date [3]Bets are void
Sportingbet, football rules (these take precedence)Match takes place on the same day, local time at venue [1]Bets struck before kick-off are void
Supabets, "For all sports unless clearly stated"Rescheduled to within 24 hours of the original start time [5]Deemed void; money credited accordingly
SportyBet, soccer rulesContinued within 48h after initial kick-off [2]Undecided bets are void

Summaries of each bookmaker's wording, read on 28 October 2026. Our reading: on a football draw no bet, Sportingbet's same-day rule governs. A void single bet counts as won at odds of 1.00, so the stake comes back [3].

Which window applies depends on the bookmaker, so check its own rule for the match you bet on.

What happens to a draw no bet leg in a multi?

None of the pages we read says how a drawn draw no bet leg settles inside a multi (an accumulator). The nearest wording is about cancelled events. Sportingbet's help page on postponed and abandoned events says: "Multi bet: Only the selection of the event in question is cancelled, where the odds become 1.00, and your multi bet will continue to function, but your possible winnings will be recalculated." [7]

Its general rules say the same of any void bet: "In a multi bet, this means that the total odds will be adjusted accordingly and the multi bet can still be won if all other bets it contains are won too." [3] Its football rule words a draw no bet draw as a refund, not a void, and does not say how a refunded leg settles in a multi.

Its page on a tie with a line says: "When the final score of an event is exactly the same as a point spread or total points line, bets on this market are cancelled." [8] That page is about spreads and totals and does not mention draw no bet, so we do not apply it here.

SportyBet's help page says a void match counts as "an odd of 1.00" and that "other selections of a winning ticket will then be paid out regularly" [4]. Supabets says that with a void match in a multiple, "the outcome of the multiple will be decided on the result of the remaining legs" [5]. Neither page says a draw in a draw no bet leg is a void match.

Our reading: a bookmaker that treats a refunded draw as a void leg lets the multi carry on without it, as the accumulator guide describes. We found no wording that says any of the three does so for draw no bet, so check the betslip before you confirm.

Is a 0 handicap the same as draw no bet?

SportyBet lists an Asian Handicap market. For a line of 0 its rule reads: "The team that wins by any margin is to be settled as the winning selection. In the event of a draw all tickets are void." [2]

SportyBet does not say that this and draw no bet are the same market. Our reading: both rules pay the side that wins and void a draw, so they settle those two results in the same way. We found no mention of Asian handicap in the Sportingbet or Supabets pages we read.

Whose rules does this guide use?

We read the published rules of three of the eight bookmakers we review, on 28 October 2026: Sportingbet's football, general and bet cancellation help pages, the SportyBet help pages on FAQ and sports rules, and Supabets' betting terms. SportyBet's sports rules sit in collapsed sections, so we read the full text of the page.

We could not read the rules of Betway, Hollywoodbets or World Sports Betting. From our own network, our internet provider sent all three to a block page. From a second network, Betway's rules page loaded but did not show its rules text, and Hollywoodbets and World Sports Betting returned an access-denied response (HTTP 403).

10bet returned HTTP 403 with a page titled 'Just a moment...'. Easybet redirected us to a page titled 'easybet.co.za - Only Available in South Africa'. We worked around none of these.

Before you bet: limits and help

  1. Read the bookmaker's own rule for what a draw returns, whether extra time counts, and what happens if the match is postponed or abandoned.
  2. Check how the betslip treats a draw no bet leg before you put it in a multi.
  3. Set your betting limits before you deposit, not after a loss.
  4. If a bet is settled in a way you do not understand, ask support in writing and keep the reply.
  5. If that does not settle it, check the bookmaker's licence and contact the provincial board that issued it. If the board has not been able to assist, the NGB says to escalate the complaint in writing to [email protected] [9].
  6. If betting stops being a pastime, see responsible gambling and the helpline.
