Payments and withdrawal times in rand
Sportingbet's help centre has a separate page for each payment method. Deposits can be made with Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Electronic Funds Transfer, Ozow, OTT Voucher and Flash 1Voucher. The cashier is where you pick one: log in, open My Account, choose Cashier and then Deposit.
Card deposits show in your account within one to two minutes, and the page says there is no fee for Visa deposits. For MasterCard it says the same, with one warning: your card company may add a cash advance fee that appears on your statement.
Google Pay deposits are in rand only, with a minimum of R50 and a maximum of R1,000,000, and the page says there is no fee. Apple Pay is described as available on iOS through the Safari mobile web browser, and a device can hold up to eight cards.
Ozow lets you pay from your bank without a separate Ozow account. The help page names ABSA, Capitec Pay, FNB, Investec, Nedbank and Standard Bank as the banks that work with it, and says it credits instantly with no charge. Ozow is a deposit option only. Vouchers work the same way.
An OTT Voucher is a 12-digit code bought with cash at participating retail outlets or through a banking app, and you must deposit the full voucher value because partial redemption is not supported. A Flash 1Voucher uses a 16-digit code. Neither voucher can be used to withdraw.
Withdrawals follow different rules. Sportingbet says every withdrawal is reviewed by an internal team and approved within four hours, and that requests can occasionally be merged when an earlier one has not been processed yet. The payment method then adds its own time, which the help centre says is on top of the internal processing. You see that time under each method on the Withdraw screen, and again in Payment History after you submit.
Express Withdrawals is the quickest route to a bank account. The help page says a request that passes the automatic checks is processed instantly, and one that does not is reviewed and completed within six to eight hours. Regular bank transfers can take one to two business days.
There is no fee, you can request a withdrawal on the same day as a cleared deposit, and you can take out more than you deposited. The account must be a verified South African bank account in your name, matched against the ID number on your gaming account.
FNB E-Wallet works in batches. Withdrawals are processed at 7am, 12pm, 5pm and 10pm daily, and your e-wallet PIN arrives by SMS once your batch runs. The help page lists a R3,000 maximum per withdrawal and a R25,000 ceiling on the balance an FNB E-Wallet can hold, with no fee on the first withdrawal.
Visa withdrawals are limited to Visa cards not issued in the USA, and MasterCard withdrawals need a successful deposit with MasterCard in the last six months. The Google Pay page contradicts itself on withdrawals, saying both that withdrawals go back to the card used and that Google Pay is not a withdrawal option, so check the cashier before relying on it.
Until a withdrawal is processed you can reverse it. Open the cashier, choose Deposit, and any pending withdrawal appears there so you can put all or part of it back on your balance. Bonus funds are the usual reason a payout cannot go ahead: if you have unused bonus money you may not be able to withdraw, and bonus restrictions that are not met block those funds. If you have taken an offer, read its terms before you ask for money back.
Sports, markets and bet rules
The A to Z menu on the sports page lists 30 sports, including football, rugby union, rugby league, cricket, tennis, golf, horse racing, Formula 1, boxing, combat sports, darts, snooker, table tennis, volleyball and handball. Less common entries such as chess, surfing, ski jumping and Gaelic games appear too. A competitions list on the same page names the UEFA Nations League, United Rugby Championship, Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga among others.
Prices are decimal. Football match-result markets show a 2UP (EP) label on some matches, and the page also shows spread lines on rugby, outright winner markets and an Enhanced Multis section. Build A Bet combines two or more legs from a single event, and Build A Bet+ adds legs from other events. In Build A Bet, one voided leg voids the whole bet, and a Build A Bet cannot be edited with Edit My Bet.
The terms are worth reading once, because they decide disputes. A bet is accepted when it shows under My Bets, and an accepted bet cannot be revoked or changed. A bet placed after an event has started is invalid, except in live betting.
Invalid and void bets are settled at odds of 1.00, which returns the stake on a single and shortens a multi. Sportingbet may decline any bet without giving a reason, may correct obvious pricing errors even after the event, and may void bets placed on them.
The general remarks set a winning limit of R10,000,000 per player per bet and per player per week. Sportingbet describes these as approximate values that move with exchange rates, and reserves the right to set different limits for individual players. That page carries the date 05/10/2017, so check the live page before you rely on the figures.
The site carries other gaming products as well. This guide covers sports betting only, in line with the Advertising Regulatory Board's code, which treats online sports betting as legal and online gambling as illegal.
Cash Out, Edit My Bet and one-click betting
Cash Out lets you accept a payout before a bet is settled. The amount follows the current odds, so it changes with the match. Sportingbet limits it to single and multi bets, excludes system bets and bets placed with promotional credit, and says it does not guarantee that Cash Out will be offered on any event. The terms advise explicitly against placing a bet on the assumption that Cash Out will be there later. A cashed-out selection also does not count towards bonus wagering.
Auto Cash Out and Notify Cash Out build on that. You choose a value, and the system tries to cash out, or alerts you, when the offer reaches it. The terms say neither feature is promised. Live bets carry a delay, so the value can fall below your target before the request completes. If you cash out manually, any Auto or Notify rule on that bet is removed.
Edit My Bet works on any single or multi bet that has Cash Out available. You can add a selection, swap one, remove one or increase the stake. Behind the scenes the old bet is cashed out and the returns, plus any extra stake, are placed on the new bet. The new stake therefore equals the Cash Out value at the moment you started editing. Settled bets keep an Edit History you can open from the bet card.
One-click betting is a live-betting setting. Once you switch it on and accept its terms, one tap on the odds places a bet with your chosen stake and no confirmation screen. The terms point out that a placed bet cannot be reversed, so it suits only people who are comfortable with that.
Live betting and video
Choosing a live event opens a page with the other live events on the left, the available markets in the centre and your betslip on the right. Click a pick, enter a stake and confirm. Sportingbet checks the bet and tells you whether it was accepted, and gives a reason if it was not. The live betting help is explicit that bets cannot be cancelled once placed.
Live video is limited to customers with a positive account balance, or who were active in the previous 24 hours. Bonus money does not count towards the balance. The terms say there is no charge at present but that one could be introduced, that the schedule shows only the events you can watch from your location, and that audio commentary covers selected events only. They also warn of a delay of a few seconds, so the picture can lag behind the score.
Mobile betting
The help centre has a Mobile Sports Betting section covering how to place a bet, filters per sport, the betslip, Cash Out, Edit Bet, Bet Finder, bet settlement and a glossary. To bet on mobile you log in, browse sports and leagues, tap the odds to add a selection, choose single or multi, enter a stake and tap Place Bet. A message on the betslip confirms the bet.
We did not check app stores for a Sportingbet app, so we do not describe one. If you want an app, look for it on the operator's own site or in your phone's store, and confirm the publisher before you install.
Customer support
The Help and Contact page lists contact hours of 07:00 to 22:00 and a Contact Us option, followed by popular articles and a category list that includes withdrawals, deposits, account access, account details and verification, promotions, registration, technical issues and responsible gaming. The popular articles lead with how long withdrawals take and why a deposit has not been credited.
For a blocked account the help centre asks you to write to customer service with your first and last name, residential address, date of birth, phone number and the email address on the account, and to give the reason in the subject line. We did not test response times, so we cannot say how quickly a reply arrives.
Registration, FICA and verification
South African law requires Sportingbet to verify the age of its customers, and its help centre calls this Know Your Customer. After you register the operator runs its own checks and hopes to verify you automatically. If that does not happen, limits apply.
An unverified account can deposit up to 20,000 rand before a 28-day verification grace period begins, and that limit rises to 100,000 rand during the grace period. When the higher figure is reached, Sportingbet asks for an identification document showing your name and date of birth and a proof of address such as a utility bill. Once the process is complete you can withdraw and the account is fully active.
The practical advice is to verify early. Express Withdrawals needs a verified bank account in your name, and the bank match uses your South African ID or passport number. If automatic bank verification fails when your details are right, the help page tells you to contact customer service. The site footer also links a FICA page and the operator's PAIA manual.
Safer gambling tools
The responsible gaming page, last reviewed in November 2025, describes a safer gaming approach called Committed to player safety. It lists deposit limits, which you can set as daily, weekly or monthly amounts, and a time-out or cool-off period, which lets you take a break at any time. It also covers closure, time out and self-exclusion, spending controls and account safety.
Self-exclusion from all gambling goes through the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. You complete a form and email it to the board, and the exclusion starts only when the board's notification is received. Until then you remain liable for any losses.
The footer on the pages we opened carries the 18+ limit, the national warning and the toll-free counselling line of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, with a WhatsApp number as well. If betting is causing you harm, that line is free and confidential.
Licence and who runs the site
The footer says Greatodds (Pty) Ltd of Granger Bay Court, Beach Road, Cape Town, trading as Sportingbet South Africa, is licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. It adds that Sportingbet is used under licence from Entain Operations Limited. The footer links the bookmaker licence and WCGRB notices.
The Western Cape board's own list shows a bookmaker licence for Greatodds (Pty) Ltd under the name Sportingbets SA, number 10125193-019, and the National Gambling Board's Verified Operators list includes it as well. Both lists are in our registry, with the date we read each one. The board spells the trade name with an s, so a search for the brand may need either spelling.
A licence is a starting point, not a quality mark. It tells you which board to complain to and which rules apply. Before you deposit, confirm the licence on the board's site or the national list, as our licensing page explains.
Frequently asked questions

Do I have to verify my account?
Yes. You can deposit up to a set limit before verification, then you must send an ID document and proof of address. You cannot withdraw until the process is complete.
