Verdict

Hollywoodbets is the brand of Hollywood Sportsbook, whose Western Cape bookmaker licence sits on both the provincial board's list and the national Verified Operators list. Its App Store listing leads with sports betting and horse racing, and offers Cash Out on soccer multiples and live in-play betting.

Deposits and withdrawals in rand

The App Store listing says the app offers a whole host of deposit options and names none of them. It gives no minimum deposit, no deposit limit, no withdrawal time and no withdrawal fee. Those details normally sit on the operator's own help pages, which we did not read for this review.

Open the cashier before you deposit and look at the limit and fee for the method you plan to use. Ask support in writing how long a withdrawal takes and whether a deposit must be played through first. Neither point is in the listing, and both change how soon you can take money out.

Hollywoodbets also runs betting shops in several provinces, and the registry lists licences for them. The listing covers the app only, so treat anything you hear about the shops as separate from the online service, and check the app's own cashier for what you can use online.

Sports, racing and bet rules

The listing leads with sports betting and horse racing. It describes comprehensive soccer and sports betting options and calls the app a slick, responsive package of the mobile site's features. It also claims some of the most competitive odds in South Africa. That is the operator's own claim, we did not test it, and odds change from market to market.

The listing gives no minimum stake, maximum stake, maximum win or list of leagues and markets. Read those on the betslip and in the terms before you place a bet. If a limit matters to you, such as the most a single bet can win, ask support and keep the answer in writing.

Horse racing is a big part of the brand. IOL reported in May 2025 that Hollywood Sportsbook Holdings had completed its acquisition of Gold Circle, the KwaZulu-Natal racing operator. It also reported renovation work at Greyville.

An owner that also runs racing does not change how a bet is settled, but it is useful context for a racing punter. It means the company's interests reach beyond taking bets on the sport.

Cash Out and live in-play betting

The listing says you can cash out your soccer multiples to stay in control of them. It does not say whether Cash Out is open on single bets or on other sports, whether you can cash out part of a bet, or how the offer is priced. Look for the Cash Out button on your open bet before you plan around it.

Live in-play betting lets you bet on a match as it happens. The listing names the feature and gives no list of sports or markets, and it does not say whether a match is streamed. Odds move quickly in play and a bet cannot usually be cancelled once it is accepted, so check the stake and the odds before you confirm.

The listing also advertises other gambling products at length, including crash games and lottery-style draws. This guide covers sports betting only, in line with the Advertising Regulatory Board's code, which treats online sports betting as legal and online gambling as illegal.

The Hollywoodbets app

The iOS app is published on the South African App Store by Hollywood Sportsbook Gauteng (Pty) Ltd and carries a 17+ age rating. It first appeared on 30 May 2025, and version 3.1.2 came out on 10 September 2026. It needs iOS 15.1 or later and about 43 MB of space.

On the App Store, 10,126 people have rated it, for an average of 4.6 out of 5. Those are ratings of the app, not of payout speed or customer service, and the figure moves every day. The listing describes the app as the mobile site's features in one place.

Check the publisher before you install. A separate app called Hollywoodbets Live Scores is published by Rivals Publishing Limited, not by Hollywood Sportsbook, and it is a scores app. This review covers the iOS betting app only. We did not confirm an official Android listing for South Africa, so take any Android install link only from the operator's own site.

Customer support

The listing promises 24/7 customer support and names no channel. It gives no phone number, email address or chat link, so take those from the operator's own site.

We did not test response times and cannot say how quickly an answer arrives. For a withdrawal or verification query, ask in writing so you keep a record in case you later need to take a complaint to the provincial board.

Registration, FICA and verification

The listing does not describe how registration and identity checks work, and we did not read the operator's sign-up pages. South African bookmakers must confirm who you are, so expect to give your ID number, cellphone number and proof of address, and do it before your first withdrawal. The listing's closing line says no person under 18 may gamble. You must be 18 or older to register.

Safer gambling tools

The listing says the operator supports responsible gambling, repeats that winners know when to stop, and points to the national responsible gambling counselling line. It does not describe any in-account tool, such as a deposit limit, a time out or self-exclusion.

The company behind Hollywoodbets

Hollywoodbets is the trading name of Hollywood Sportsbook companies, and the registry shows separate companies named for the Western Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo and Eastern Cape. The App Store lists the Gauteng company as publisher of the app. The Western Cape board and the national list show a licence held by the Western Cape company, but the listing names no licence or regulator, so we cannot say from the sources we read which licence covers the online service.

Licence and who holds it

The National Gambling Board's Verified Operators list shows Hollywood Sportsbook Western Cape (Pty) Ltd, trading as Hollywoodbets, with an address in La Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, under Western Cape licence 10110547-021. The Western Cape board's licence-holder list also names the company.

Our registry holds Hollywoodbets rows for six provinces: Western Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Free State and Mpumalanga. Most of the others are for individual betting shops rather than the online service, and the national list also names Hollywoodbets shops in KwaZulu-Natal under other Hollywood company names. The Gauteng row is held by Hollywood Sportsbook Gauteng (Pty) Ltd, the app's publisher.

The listing's closing lines say Hollywood Sportsbook is a licensed betting operator but do not quote a licence number or name a regulator, so we matched the licence by the brand and company names on the official lists. Confirm it yourself on the Verified Operators list before you deposit.
