Five questions to answer before your first deposit
The answers are in the terms and conditions and the help centre, not on the home page. Find each one and keep a screenshot of the wording and the date you saw it.
- Is there a fee to withdraw? Check whether the statement covers every withdrawal method or only one.
- How long does the bookmaker say it takes? A stated time is the bookmaker's own statement, not a measurement.
- Must the deposit be played through first? Some terms ask for the deposit to be wagered before any withdrawal is made.
- Which account does the money go to, and must it be in your name?
- What checks can hold a withdrawal? Verification checks can leave a request pending. The section on account rules below gives the wording.
What the bookmakers we review say
The table shows only what our review pages record about each of the seven bookmakers we review, with the gaps left as gaps. We did not read the help pages of Betway, Hollywoodbets, World Sports Betting or 10bet for this guide, so for those four the gap is in our reading and says nothing about the bookmaker.
| Bookmaker | Withdrawal fee | Stated processing time | Play-through before withdrawal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10bet | Not recorded | Not recorded | Not recorded |
| Betway | Not recorded | Not recorded | Not recorded |
| Easybet | Not recorded | Described as instant [1] | Not recorded |
| Hollywoodbets | Not recorded | Not recorded | Not recorded |
| Sportingbet | None on Express Withdrawals [2] | Express: instant, or 6 to 8 hours [2] | Not recorded |
| SportyBet | None [3] | Within 60 minutes, may be delayed [3] | Play through the full deposit [4] |
| WSB | Not recorded | Not recorded | Not recorded |
Not recorded means our review page does not record it. It does not mean the bookmaker has no fee, no wait or no condition. Each value is the bookmaker's own wording, summarised, and its page is in the sources.
Fee wording needs a careful read. Sportingbet's statement is about its Express Withdrawals method only [2], while SportyBet's FAQ says all of its withdrawals are free of charge [3].
One bookmaker's play-through rule, read closely
SportyBet's terms say: "Before a withdrawal can be made, the full value of deposit must be played through." [4] Its responsible gambling page adds that a balance which has not previously been staked will not be withdrawable [5].
Read plainly, a R500 deposit has to be played through before the first withdrawal. We did not find a definition of "played through" beside the rule, so ask support in writing how it counts and keep the answer.
The same terms cap withdrawals at ZAR 1,000,000 per customer per day [4].
Account rules and checks that can hold a payout
- SportyBet. Where possible, withdrawals go to the account the deposits came from, and only to the registered account holder. Payments go only to recognised, valid South African bank accounts [4].
- SportyBet. It may ask you to confirm your residential address with proof of residence. While that is pending, offers and withdrawal requests may remain pending [4].
- Sportingbet. Express Withdrawals go to a verified South African bank account registered in your name. A request that passes the checks is processed instantly. Otherwise it is reviewed and completed within 6 to 8 hours, and regular bank transfers can take 1 to 2 business days [2].
- Sportingbet. The checks relate to account security, wagering, responsible gambling behaviour or regulatory requirements. There is no requirement to withdraw only up to your deposit amount, but every request is subject to verification and internal checks [2].
Easybet's App Store listing says "INSTANT WITHDRAWALS" [1]. That line gives no time and no conditions, so on its own it does not answer the five questions.
If a withdrawal does not arrive
- Look for a pending notice or a request for documents in your account and your email.
- Ask support in writing what is holding it, and keep the reply.
- Check the bookmaker's licence. The NGB says to check the licence information first, then contact the provincial board that issued the licence, and if the board has not been able to assist, escalate in writing to the NGB at [email protected] [6].
